Is Your HVAC System Ready for the Summer Heatwave?
The Gulf Coast summer is unforgiving. Temperatures consistently top 90 degrees with oppressive humidity. When your HVAC system works overtime, the risk of a complete system failure skyrockets. Here is how to keep your AC running strong all summer.
Change Your Filters Monthly
A dirty air filter restricts airflow, forcing your HVAC unit to work harder to cool your home. This not only increases your energy bill but puts immense strain on the compressor and blower motor. During peak summer, check and replace your filters every 30 days.
Clear the Condenser Unit
The outdoor unit (condenser) needs to breathe to expel heat. Ensure there is at least a two-foot clearance around the unit. Remove leaves, tall grass, and debris. Gently hose off the exterior fins to remove dirt and pollen buildup that blocks airflow.
Check for Refrigerant Leaks
If your system is running constantly but the air coming out of the vents isn't ice cold, you may have a refrigerant leak. Running a system with low refrigerant can freeze the evaporator coils and permanently destroy the compressor.
